Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Be My Neighbor Day

Won’t you be my neighbor?

The weather on Saturday, October 19th was perfect for bringing together our neighbors at NJPAC in Newark, New Jersey for Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Be My Neighbor Day. 1,750 people and several community partners were in attendance for this free event, a celebration of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and the 15th Anniversary of Grow Up Great (an initiative of The PNC Financial Services Group). The theme of Be My Neighbor Day is to promote local volunteerism, family engagement, and community development.

WNET’s Kids’ Media and Education partnered with PNC and NJPAC for Be My Neighbor Day which included a day of neighborly fun and activities for young children and their caregivers. Families had the opportunity to meet Daniel Tiger, participate in movement and dance demonstrations, play musical instruments, build with blocks, listen to stories, have their faces painted, enjoy a BBQ pit, and create crafts such as finger puppets and masks. They were also introduced to several key community helpers in Newark such as the Newark fire department, police and EMTs. Most importantly, there were philanthropic opportunities to participate in which helped to promote being caring neighbors in the community. These included making cards for children at the Beth Israel Children’s Hospital and donating canned goods to UVSO, a local community agency. Over 1200 cans were collected at the event and will go towards making holiday baskets for families in need.

Thank you so much to the amazing community partners in Newark that participated in Be My Neighbor Day:
