PBS NewsHour Weekend is hiring summer 2018 interns. Apply immediately.

PBS NewsHour Weekend, a national current affairs program produced at WNET, covers the national and international news of the day and regularly features longer-form, in-depth “signature” segments. The 30-minute broadcast airs Saturdays and Sundays on PBS stations at 5 p.m. The weekend team runs the PBS NewsHour website (pbs.org/newshour) as well as PBS NewsHour’s social media accounts on Saturdays and Sundays.

This is primarily a digital reporting internship, but interns for PBS NewsHour Weekend will be exposed to all aspects of newsgathering and production, both for broadcast and online audiences. Possible assignments include, but are not limited to:

— Working with the online team on the website’s breaking news blog and writing short posts

— Pitching and working on feature projects for the website

— Helping with the program’s social media strategy, including editorial and promotional work

— Working with the day-of-air broadcast team on Saturdays and Sundays on the production of the daily program

— Assisting with fact-checking and research for broadcast program and online stories

— Participating in on-location broadcast shoots in New York City


This is an unpaid position. Interns will work with our team from Wednesday to Sunday for eight weeks. This internship will last for 35 hours a week, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wed-Fri and 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
