Music Services Internship

The Department:

Music Services provides music research and rights clearances for all WNET production units for a variety of uses. As well, Music Services advises all production units, as requested, in all areas of music operations and administration including – music licensing, selecting music, preparing music cue sheets, commissioning composers, preparing AFM Musician Union wages, and music publishing.

Description of Duties:

Assist in preparing music cue sheets via RapidCue, research music rights, create/edit audio files, and learn how to select music for use with video.

Student’s Accountability:

Student will report to the Director, Music Services who will guide the student by helpingthem learn how to use best practices when researching music rights, music selections, and creating music cue sheets. Given the Director is also a composer and musician, other music performance-related tasks might also be included, as needs arise.

Skills: 

Ideally, the student should be a music major or minor; however, students with an affinity for music (producing concerts at their school or DJ-ing at the college radio station) will also succeed in the intern position.

Opportunity Profile:

Interns will have the ability to:

  • research composer/publisher information accurately and prepare music cue sheets via RapidCue;
  • create/edit audio files;
  • learn how to select music appropriate for use in video.

Expected results include:

  • completed music cue sheets;
  • completed music rights research, as requested;
  • gaining some critical listening techniques;
  • essential time-management skills.
