WNET Hosts Second PBS Edcamp to Support Early Childhood Teaching & Learning

Last week on January 8, early childhood educators and professionals from around New Jersey participated in a fun, unique and inspiring evening at PBS Edcamp! Part of a partnership with PBS, this was WNET’s third Edcamp, and the second for early childhood providers.

Designed for teachers, an Edcamp is a “un-conference,” which provides educators access to high quality, personalized, professional learning. There are no prepared presentations. Instead, the teachers who attend develop and facilitate the sessions based on their interests and experience. Participant-driven, everyone is encouraged to join the discussion, explore ideas, and share key information with others for their personalized teacher development.

PBS Edcamp was hosted by Kids’ Media & Education members Ellie Janszky, KJ Vanderiet and Norah Jones, in partnership with WNET’s Early Learning Champion, Carmen Espinosa. The Edcamp was held at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, New Jersey. During Edcamp, participants engaged in inspiring conversations such as strategies focused on behavior management and connecting parents and teachers more effectively. Attendees were also sent home with free resources from WNET to help support their teaching and learning.

PBS and Edcamp created PBS Edcamp as a national partnership in 2017 to provide opportunities for educators across the country to engage in peer-to-peer learning. Through this pilot initiative, Edcamp and 10 PBS member stations bring together teachers in communities across the country to elevate their voices and empower them professionally.
