Meet Our Summer 2019 Interns, Part 3

Welcome to the third installment of WNET’s 2019 Summer Intern Spotlights. Our interns told us about the work they’re doing at WNET, their favorite fictional characters, and, in celebration of the Summer of ’69 specials, their favorite concert experiences.  We hope you enjoy learning about our wonderful interns in these interviews conducted by Gabriella Vetrano, the Marketing and Audience Engagement Department’s summer intern.

(Left to right): Julia Sachi Mates, Katherine Randolph, Ruby Gara, Kendra Brown

Kendra Brown is from Harlem, New York, and is currently a rising junior at New York University where she is studying Film and TV. She is interning with Great Performances and NYC-ARTS. She says the fictional character that she’s most like is Beth Pearson from the show This Is Us, because she is assertive and often gives good advice. They are both unafraid to chase their dreams, while also realistically approaching any obstacles they face throughout their journeys.

Erin Donnelly is from Long Island, New York, and attends Santa Clara University in California. She is rising sophomore pursuing a Music and Computer Science double major with a Math minor, and is interning in Music Services. She is a diehard Brandi Carlile fan, and her favorite concert was seeing her live last April.

Caroline Dunetz is from New York City, and is a rising junior majoring in Communications at Cornell University. She is working in the Production Department at WNET over the summer. Her favorite concert was Coldplay’s Head Full of Dreams Tour, which she saw the summer after she graduated high school.

Ruby Gara is a Budapest-born, rising junior at Fordham University. She is half Cuban and half Hungarian. She is pursuing a major in Journalism, and is currently an intern at Amanpour and Company. Since her childhood, the one fictional character she’s related to the most was Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls, because they’re both stronger than they look.

Julia Sachi Mates is from Evanston, Illinois, and will be a senior at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she is designing a program in Entertainment Writing and Development. She is an intern for American Masters. The character most like her is Gil Pender from Midnight in Paris. She too is guilty of Golden Age thinking and believes the past is the ideal time to live.

Katherine Randolph was born and raised in Kennedale, Texas, and is a rising junior at Georgetown University. She is majoring in American Studies and minoring in Journalism. She is currently interning with Amanpour and Company, and the fictional character she identifies most strongly with is D.W. Read from Arthur. They both get things done and are always willing to speak their mind, even though sometimes they’re not very popular for it.

(Left to right): Carly Henriquez, Taffy Lashley, Nicolas Consalvo, Darieus Baker and Emily Carbali

Emily Carbali is from Shelton, Connecticut, and is attending the University of Connecticut where she is double majoring in Journalism and Spanish. This summer she is working at NJTV News with Mary Alice Williams as a news production intern. She has only attended one concert: A Boogie and PnB Rock last New Year’s Eve in Philadelphia.

Nicolas Consalvo was born and raised in Manhattan, New York, and is a rising senior at SUNY New Paltz. He is studying Digital Media Production and his biggest areas of interest are audio engineering and all types of digital creative design. He is currently an intern at NJTV News and his favorite concert experience was The Roots Picnic festival in 2016, a festival in Philadelphia. Nicolas loved exploring a new city while also getting to see many artists perform.

Carly Henriquez is from the Oranges, specifically Orange, New Jersey. She is very excited to be a rising senior at Montclair State University where her major is Communications and Media Arts with a double minor in Journalism and Computer Science. She is interning for the broadcast and digital news team of NJTV News. The fictional character most like her is Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls because they may be small but are mighty and forces to be reckoned with.

Taffy Lashley is from Woodbridge, New Jersey, but grew up in Brooklyn and Irvington, NJ. She is a rising senior at Rutgers University-Newark and is majoring in Video Production with a minor in Creative Writing. She works as a Digital Media intern at NJTV, mostly with the production/editorial team. Her favorite concert experience was seeing Jamila Woods and Nitty Scott at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, NY.
