RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY HONORED WITH PRESTIGIOUS WEBBY AWARD

Washington, D.C. - RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY, the Thirteen/WNET New York-produced PBS news magazine program hosted by Bob Abernethy, has been selected as the best "Religion & Spirituality" Web site of 2007 in the 11th Annual Webby Awards presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

Established in 1996 to honor the best in online creativity and innovation, this year's Webby Awards, the Internet's most respected symbol of success, received a record 8,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide. Content for the RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY Web site, www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics, including video and audio resources, interviews, and original and related broadcast materials, is overseen by the program's Information Editor Missy Daniel with assistance from Information Manager Janice Henderson. Technical support is provided by Brian Brunius, Jeremy Hinsdale and Gabriel Torres in Thirteen/WNET's Interactive and Broadband department.

In 2004, the RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY Web site was honored with a Silver Angel Award presented by Excellence in Media.

RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY celebrates 10 years of distinctive, cutting-edge news coverage and analysis on PBS. The acclaimed one-of-a-kind program offers compelling and in-depth reports on important religion and ethics stories and newsmaking headlines that impact communities across the U.S. and worldwide. The series companion Web site features streaming video of weekly reports and accompanying transcripts, an audio archive of past programs, full transcripts of interviews with notable guests, related articles dealing with significant issues in religion and ethics news, a list of teacher resources and lesson plans, and a multi-faith calendar, plus downloadable versions of the program's Viewers Guide and quarterly newsletter.
