Creative Initiatives helps to drive WNET.ORG’s idea generation for new projects and initiatives with traditional and non-traditional institutional funding partners (primarily in foundations and government). For example, in 2008, with leadership support from the Rockefeller Foundation, WNET.ORG created Blueprint America, the first year-round, cross-platform exploration of America’s crumbling infrastructure and the concept of infrastructure planning . In addition, with major support from the Booth Ferris Foundation and guidance from the New York City Department of Education, it also recently expanded VITAL (Video In Teaching and Learning), a digital library that blends educational television programming and a Web-based interface that grants teachers access to streaming content and accompanying standards-aligned materials for use in the classroom. Most recently, the Peter G. Peterson Foundation has partnered with WNET.ORG’s new global news program, Worldfocus, to support a crucial year-round series of unique news stories that highlight the effects of America’s growing debt and fiscal policies.
