Topic Description: -Some "Treatment" centres are telling people who want to get clean "only four of you in this room are going to make it." -"Funky artist Condos" are being developed within blocks of Vancouver, Canada's Main and Hastings district. $150,000 cool condos are overlooking people spiking in their back alley. They just assume that one day the addicted community will just "go away". -The HIV/AIDs "issue" has become a MEDICAL CRISIS/EMERGENCY in this part of our city of Vancouver. -A "drop - in / recreation centre" has now been proposed. A place where people with addictions can hang-out in, high or not, and may be open for 24 hours a day. Some are proposing to have "arts and crafts". What I would like to see, is the all of the great medical research continued, leading to more treatment options. Right now, in this neck of the woods, most treatment is 12-Step based / related ( Christian, anyway you slice it ), or costs several thousand dollars. I agree that addiction treatment needs to take on a more medical aproach. Ultimately, resources that are being made availble should be be used: to try to END addiction from people lives, not make their addiction more comfortable.
