Forum: Close to HomeTopic: Worse Than Jail or DeathTopic Posted by: Irene Gray (IMGRAY@aol.com )Date Posted: Sun Apr 5 11:57:32 1998 Topic Description: I was really moved and encouraged by the program Close to Home. My story was certainly different as far as the outcome, but very similar to much of what was aired. My husband battled alcohol most of his 37 years on this earth. At first it was episodel and eventually progressed to more and more frequently. I can identify with the frustration of the family expecially when one does not understand the nature of the disease. I evently sought help for myself and my sons when they were 6 and 8 years old. I entered Alanon when was the beginning of a new phase in this disease. I began to learn about the disease and how powerless I was over it. I began to discuss it with my sons and started to educate them and most of all didn't make excuses and kept no secrets about what we were dealing with. eventually my husband got into AA but did not take it seriously. He stopped drinking but sometime during the first year got involved with cocaine. If my life was a nightmare before, it was pure hell afterwards.
