Forum: Close to HomeTopic: Freedom vs. ForceTopic Posted by: Linda (lrawles@grand-canyon.edu )Date Posted: Tue Mar 31 19:21:40 1998 Topic Description: Many Americans support drug decriminalization FOR moral reasons: rights to freedom of choice regarding our property (our bodies), the immorality of incarcerating diseased persons who have harmed no one, the loss of civil liberties in the "drug war." Many of us oppose taxpayer financed treatment for similar reasons: It is immoral to forcibly take my property ($) and help someone else. Rather, I should help voluntarily for the act to have moral worth. From the point of view of the addict, he/she should pay (at some point); a crucial part of recovery is the acceptance of responsibility. Let's be consistent and think beyond the conservative (war on drugs) and liberal (more govt.; more of my $$) alternatives. Freedom!
