Topic Description: Excellent show. Technically accurate. I listened to every minute. It brought back memories of the experience my family went through only a few years ago. My wife and I have a son, now 20, married, and in recovery. We went through a year of living hell with him before learning that he was an alcoholic/addict and got him into a treatment program. The program, called Kids Helping Kids, in Cincinnati, OH, is specially for teenagers. It lasted a year, and involved intense family involvement. He relapsed five months after finishing, and we let him live on the streets for about a year until he got arrested. At that point we got him into an adult program for a few months (he was 18 by then). He relapsed again, but eventually straightened himself out when he finally realized by himself that there was no situation so bad that taking that drink or smoking that joint would help make things better. Becoming an unwed father also helped him realize he had new responsibilities beyond himself. I wrote a book about this so I can share our experiences, show others what it takes to help a son or daughter, and to give an sense that there is help and hope. I’ve had an agent trying to find a publisher for almost two years, with no luck. Apparently the publishing industry, as a whole, feels that we solved the drug problem back in the eighties and have moved on to other topics. I desperately want to see my book published as a way to pass on what we learned and to help others. Self publishing through a subsidy publisher is beyond my means. I’m looking for suggestions on how I might get my story published to help others who are in the situation that my wife and I were in only a few years ago. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
