I believe how much joy you bring to your life,is a good measure of success, and the best deterrent from relaps.a great teacher once told a group of us that it was our duty to bring joy in our life, for it is the great healer of ourselves and all life around us. works for me

The long term sober pesons in AA state that you are always in recovery. There are danger times (5-7 years, 10-12 years) when many relapse. Complacency and the committee in the head can ambush you at any time. The AA program also stresses freedom of choice. Therefore, successful recovery to me is the choice made that I can never drink again in my life and that I must stay sober, under all conditions, one day at a time

Subject: Successful Treatment
Message:
As a person in recovery and a Human Resources professional, I believe successful recovery happens when an individual who wants to stop using and effective, caring treatment come together at the same time. I have seen people "forced" into treatment by workplace policies and that usually seems ineffective. My experience is that the person has to want it, otherwise all the "treatment" in the world may not help. Even though I have seen this over and over again, my own sense of humanity compells me, through my profession, to refer people who certainly appear unready for treatment into our Employee Assistance Program in the hopes that something will sink in and reach them.

I was told you're a newcomer until you have at least five years of continuous recovery. I've got almost nine, and I'm sure I'm not going to drink today. That's about as sucessful as I want to be.
