Subject: Relapse=wrong treatment?
Message:
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If someone continually relapses after repeated attempts at traditional rehab, perhaps another approach should be taken. As George Vaillant pointed out in his book, "The Natural History of Alcoholism" the effectiveness of 12-step oriented treatment is no greater than no treatment at all. We need to figure out why this is so, and find appropriate treatment for those individuals who continually relapse in traditional treatment.
