There shouldn't be a reasonable limit, but an addict who obviously doesn' want to stop using but just wants to keep their check coming or to be in compliance with the conditions of their parole/probation shouldn't be able to use their towns rehab clinics as a way to do this. Here in Philly, it is not uncommon to have an addict stay in each clinic for up to two years while they continue to use and eventually come full circle. There are some clinics who see the same client who hasn't changed anything every ten years after they've made the rounds. However, since managed care has taken over and with welfare reform, they are trying to put a cap on it. Here in Philly managed care will only pay for 1 detox treatment. You also have to justify every 10 sessions as to why your client should stay in treatment. These bureaucrats seem to think that drug addiction is like a sitcom. That after 3 months the addict rides off into the sunset and lives happily ever after.
