Before you saw I HEAR AMERICA SINGING, what was your image/concept of American song? What, if anything, did you learn about our repertoire? What was the single most interesting discovery for you?

I think your pages look beautiful, but I am concerned with a few things on the Thoreau page that seem in error. Could you straighten me out on them? You report that John Thoreau died of tuberculosis. I thought it was lockjaw? I have read biographies that mention HDT's famous hysterical recreation of John's symptoms. Also, your pages mention that HDT "studied Native American Culture." The "Indian Books" or "Indian Notebooks" HDT was working on at the time of his death seem, I believe, to be "commonplace books" filled with data HDT gleaned from other Savagist sources and filled with innacuracies. Responses?

Well, I find myself in a cyberspace labyrinth. I repeat -- I admire Mr. Hampson so much, not least of all for his loyalty to American composers of song. I am heart sick that I missed this program. Is it available on video cassett? And may I add here my enthusiasm and admiration for his performances in Barber's *Cleopatra* and Susa's "Liasons Dangereuse* -- the latter of which I taped but got an awful copy of -- and my appreciation to PBS for broadcasting them? Dear Thomas and CyberSong site team: Before the broadcast I would have described myself as a definite non-fan of the German lieder school and I had associated the program with this music and had decided not to view it. This probably stemmed from my snobbish Francophonism (or Gallicism), but I, being Southern, had always loved Foster and others, so I gave you a chance. And boy AM I glad I did! As is usually the case with PBS, I am rarely disappointed and always stimulated. So a heartfelt thank you for the broadcast and an additional tip of the hat for all the effort that is so evident in this website. Greg
