Noah is a survivor. After the waters recede, we see him planting a vineyard.....only to get drunk! Life has changed for him 100%. The people outside his family that he once knew, are no more. He is a survivor, like the last soldier alive when the rest of the company has been killed.
He knows guilt: "could I have saved them?" and a loneliness his family cannot heal. There is no utopia here, only the remnant of a frightened people who learn the dark side of being chosen, saved. There is no joy in Mudville. There is no utopia here. There is only the realization that there cannot be a better world without other people sharing in the blessings of God....something that God calls the people of Abram to do.

if your child just finished cramming a peanut butter and jelly sandwich into the VCR, would you not punish the child (in order to instill some sense of right and wrong), and then buy a new VCR?i realize that the universe within a VCR probably does not contain as many significant lifeforms as does our own, but i also believe that too much significance is given to the human race. if you have to start over, then you have to start over. i think it was nice of god to warn somebody. he could have started from scratch again, but his warning to Noah represents his faith in only some humans. that is, he likes those that like him (almost like a bully, i think). if he is going to give people free will, then he should at least let them excersize it.
i don't commend god for acting as he did. i think he acted hastily, and any being who cannot get it right the first time has no business being perfect. am i judging god? of course i'm judging god; as an individual i can do that.
as for Noah...a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I am not sure the value of the question since the text
gives so little insight to Noah as a man. We know that he
has faith and is obedient to God. He is a servant to God without
question. I find it difficult to equate this story to Holocaust
survivors since that was a man made event. I think it is better
to keep the story simple...the writers wanted to continue a
sense of fear and awe of God in the readers...as if to say
"Look what can happen when we are disobedient, so follow the
rules."
