NJTV Wraps 2017 “In Your Neighborhood” Initiative in New Brunswick

Brother Jimmy’s BBQ in New Brunswick

This Wednesday, NJTV made its final In Your Neighborhood broadcast stop for 2017 in New Brunswick. NJTV News with Mary Alice Williams kicked off the night with a live newscast followed by a half-hour live special before an enthusiastic audience at Brother Jimmy’s BBQ, presenting an appetizing menu of New Brunswick’s news, arts and culture.

Hosted by NJTV News Anchor Mary Alice Williams, the NJTV News on air team shared New Brunswick-centric stories throughout the half-hour special. Correspondent Michael Hill examined the history and impact of Rutgers University with insight from the Chancellor of the New Brunswick campus Debasish Dutta.

Taking a look at the city’s business and healthcare sectors, Chief Political Correspondent Michael Aron interviewed Shaun Mickus, Global Director for Social Business Practices on Johnson & Johnson’s Global Community Impact team, and Correspondent Briana Vannozzi interviewed John Gantner President & CEO, Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center.

Senior Correspondent David Cruz reported on the contributions of the city’s vibrant and growing Hispanic population. Correspondent Leah Mishkin took a first-hand look at the plight of the city’s homeless population and the efforts being made to change their lives, including a visit to a local soup kitchen. Brenda Flanagan sampled her way through the famous “grease trucks” of the Rutgers University campus.

WNET’s development team hosted a reception for guests (including NJTV Trustee Scott Kobler and guests from Rutgers University, The State Theater of New Jersey, George Street Theater, and the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey) after the broadcast, which included mingling with the News team.
