Friends of THIRTEEN Welcomes Two New Members to Board of Directors

The Friends of THIRTEEN, Inc. welcomes two new members to its Board of Directors — Daniel T. Allen and Melody Marcus.

Daniel T. Allen is Head of Video at Light Reading, where he provides global coverage of next generation communications and enterprise technologies. Dan began his career at WNET, first as an intern for Friends of THIRTEEN, and then went on to serve as the first Director of Community Engagement for Friends. He also helped develop local documentary supplements to Ken Burns’ The National Parks: America’s Best Idea and Baseball: Tenth Inning. While at WNET, Dan was an Associate Producer on Baseball: A New York Love Story, WE ARE THE KNIGHTS and God in New York. Dan was instrumental in establishing and cementing the Macaulay Honors College partnership with the station, where students are given a real world experience at a premier public media station while at the same time, WNET has access to a talented pool of passionate young pre-professionals with diverse interests. Dan lives in Brooklyn with his family.

Melody Marcus is a longtime supporter and Patron of WNET and an active leader in her volunteer community. She chairs the Fall Festival Book Fair at the Dwight School and previously volunteered her time at the Nursery School at Habonim as editor of the school’s newspaper and online auction administrator. Her professional background spans over a decade in higher education publishing. Melody was the Editorial Director of Retail Test Preparation Titles at The Princeton Review before taking off time to raise a family. Melody lives in New York City with her family.

The Friends of THIRTEEN is a separate 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1967 to supplement the station’s fundraising efforts by cultivating contacts through community and educational outreach efforts, developing special events, and acting as an advocate for public broadcasting. The Friends is governed by a separate Board of Directors, comprised of men and women who have an active interest in the mission, programming, and education initiatives of WNET and public media.
