Charlene Shapiro joined WNET as Vice President of Human Resources in January 2009 after a 26-year career in human resources at Pfizer Inc. Since joining WNET, Shapiro has launched several initiatives to enhance productivity and professional development, including a periodic employee engagement survey and action planning, a comprehensive performance management system and succession planning.
At Pfizer, Shapiro held positions of increasing responsibility in management and human resources in Pfizer’s Pharmaceuticals, Corporate HR and Worldwide Public Affairs and Policy Divisions. Shapiro led the integration of HR policies, practices, procedures and service delivery during Pfizer’s merger with Warner Lambert and led the Public Affairs integration team during Pfizer’s acquisition of Pharmacia. She was also involved in the development and implementation of Pfizer’s Global Health Fellows Program, a unique corporate volunteer program in partnership with non-governmental organizations that became a model for other companies.
Shapiro graduated magna cum laude with a BA in English from the State University of New York at Albany and earned an MBA (with distinction) with a concentration in Human Resources Management from Pace University.
Shapiro served as Chair of the Human Resources Forum for British American Business for five years and formerly served as a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, the Children’s Health Advisory Committee for PASE (Partnership for After School Education) and is a former Board Member of the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education.
