Overall Job Objective:
The INTERN for Broadcasting is responsible for support of WNET’S digital programming channels, including acquisitions, on-air branding, promotion, and local breaks, and program administration. Where appropriate, has the opportunity to develop special programming projects for presentation on the digital channels, Thirteen, WLIW or NJTV.
Principal Responsibilities:
Helps with the acquisition and scheduling of programs for WNET’S digital broadcast services with a goal to expand viewership while creating program schedules that reflect the rich diversity of our program inventory.
Helps with the continued development of WNET’S digital on-air look and works to effectively promote the channel brands across all broadcast platforms. Develops new opportunities for cross promotion using new multicast services.
Participates in the creative direction and production of national digital and local digital on-air promotional campaigns with an emphasis on strengthening the WNET brands.
Supports all departmental activities between the digital services department and programming, communications, national productions, outreach, online, marketing, development and research.
Helps ensures that all digital channel activities adhere to WNET’S mission in providing quality programs and services to the residents of our community.
Skills:
Strong editorial skills and judgement. Must be able to evaluate proposals, scripts, rough-cuts, fine cuts as well as completed programs
Television production experience very helpful
Experience using research and audience data
Excellent written and oral skills
Ability to set priorities and juggle multiple responsibilities
Ability to ably represent WNET to public and the broadcast division internally.
Must be able to negotiate well with others to accomplish goals
Ability to think and act strategically, join in project development and support the broadcast team in seeing them through implementation
