NYC ARTS

Interns with strong writing skills, attention to detail and familiarity with New York City arts scene are sought by the NYC ARTS websites www.nyc-arts.org and www.nyckidsarts.org, which profile more than 900 cultural groups and feature their events online and on two free mobile apps, NYC ARTS and ThirteenArts. The sites aim to increase audiences for the city’s world-class institutions and smaller gems, and to inform locals and visitors about the wealth of activities happening in every borough of the city.

Content will be entered via an easy-to-use content manager system (CMS) and guided by the senior online editor.

Responsibilities

  • Write calendar listings specified by the senior online editor, adhering to style
  • Recommend coverage by researching organizations’ calendars and programming
  • For event listings, obtain permissions for image use and store and upload images according to established protocol. Formatting of photo images is via XN View for Windows (similar to Adobe Photoshop)
  • Fact check and update organization profiles and add venue listings
  • Update homepage flash tout with day’s events; update featured collections
  • By phone and email, encourage communications and marketing personnel at New York City cultural groups to take advantage of NYC ARTS content manager system and assist them in their use of it.

NYC ARTS welcomes interns with any interest in the arts and particularly welcomes a content intern with a background or interest in jazz and classical music. There are approximately 250 music organizations on www.nyc-arts.org, but coverage of events also includes music at museums, libraries and other multidisciplinary cultural organizations.  Intern will ensure that jazz, opera and classical music events at nonprofit cultural groups in the five boroughs are included on the NYC ARTS calendars.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and communications skills: correct spelling, grammar  a must; ability to convey information succinctly; cordial phone manner
  • Good editorial judgment (especially for spotting missing details) and ability to work independently
  • Ability to conduct sometimes repetitive tasks quickly
  • A keen interest in the arts; active participation in the arts a plus
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of html and social media practices

Time Commitment

Immediate opportunities are available on a rolling basis for interns to support NYC ARTS. Hours are flexible but intern will be required to work 12-24 hours per week for a two- to three-month period.
