Music Services Internship

Project Description

WNET is offering an internship in our Music Services department.  Music Services provides music research and rights clearances for a variety of uses, and advises all departments in all areas of music operations and administration, including the following:

  • Research, budget, negotiate and administer music licensing of copyrighted music and master recordings in WNET produced programs made available for ancillary distribution.
  • Select, supervise, and prepare music program scores for background, theme, and underscore for all purposes including complete program underscores, promos, and pledge.
  • Supervise and maintain log of all music included in local and national programs (music cue sheets).
  • Recommend, hire, and prepare contracts for composers of original music scores.
  • Prepare AFM Musician Union budgets for music productions.
  • Administer subsequent AFM employment including payroll supervision and preparation, including musician renewal step-ups and supplemental market residuals.

Description of Duties

Assist in submitting music cue sheets via Rapid Cue; Cataloguing music library selections into iMagic database and filing in music library; Assist in the production of music for use in programming.

Opportunity Profile

Interns will have the ability to:

  • research composer/publisher information accurately and prepare music cue sheets via RapidCue;
  • create/edit audio files;
  • Learn how to select music appropriate for use in video.

Expected results include completed music cue sheets; completed broadcast-ready music selections; along with reduction of music library backlog inventory entries – digital and analogue.

Students will learn how to listen to music critically with the direction of how music contributes/communicates in context with video.

Schedule

January 2, 2018 through February 1, 2018, 10am – 5pm. Internship may extend into the spring 2018 semester with mutual agreement.
