Administrative Assistant, Current Affairs Production

Project Description

Need to Know is a new current affairs media project from WNET.ORG, the leading provider of news, current affairs and documentary content for public television. Premiering in the spring of 2010, it will combine a major 24/7 online platform and a weekly, one-hour primetime television broadcast, in magazine format, each Friday evening.

Description of Duties

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for screening and directing incoming calls and correspondence, coordinating meetings and travel arrangements, and furnishing information on behalf of the Executive Producer or the Editorial Director of the site, or the Senior Content Producer and the Senior Broadcast Producer. He or she will be required to gain working knowledge of the project and will serve as a liaison between senior project personnel and WNET.org. and its affiliated company’s executives and managers. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for drafting correspondence, editing documents, and taking minutes of meetings; preparing, submitting and tracking routine internal reports; and helping to administer the project’s record keeping system.   In addition, he/she will liaise, as necessary, with various other departments, including publicity, production services, finance and legal. Finally, the Administrative Assistant will be expected to take on other job related duties and special projects as assigned.

Educational Requirements/Special Skills

  1. BS or BA in Liberal Arts.
  2. Minimum of one (1) year experience in television or multimedia production.
  3. Proficient in the use of a PC and related word processing and spreadsheet software.
  4. Excellent research skills, written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  5. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and to problem-solve when difficulties arise.

Preferred Requirements

  1. Prior experience in fast-paced office environment.
  2. Demonstrated interest in current affairs.
